We forgot to mention something extremely exciting that happened during our consulate appointment yesterday. We did the oath for Kennedy. We were told that adults get to do it for themselves in Chinese, but we did it for her in English, along with thirty or so other families. The next step is a signature on the child's immigration paperwork. Kennedy signed her own paperwork. We wanted to cry happy tears. We were so very proud of her. I would have paid a lot of money to have a camera at that moment. Unfortunately for the adoptive parent, cameras are not allowed in the consulate for security reasons. I couldn't even bring in the electronic translator that has saved our hind ends on more than one occasion.
It was so cool that she was able to sign for herself. That was an awesome moment. I will always remember it.
For those who are in the process now, we were told that the facility on Shamian Island and the city location will be combined into a single office that is under construction now. I think that it will be ready for paperwork in 2013.
